Bill Gates has taken the initative to help the world in another area besides technology. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has announced recently that they will be working with lawmakers and officals to better the health of the world. The Gates' are using their campaign to improve health around the world in hopes that the United States Governement will join forces and combine funds.
The "Living Proof Project" aims to educate policy and lawmakers about the role the U.S. plays in global health. Melinda Gates, in the The Washington Post, said "We have put about $11.9 billion in global health since the inception of this," she said, most of it within the past decade. "Our money is tiny."
The Gates believe that by educating those that deal directly with the funds of the U.S., they can gain sponsorship and support. The Gates have said they believe that with increased education, funding, and suppport, children deaths can be cut from 9 million every year to 5 million, in 15 years.
There are a lot of things I really like about the Gates' cause, and the way they have advertised and projected it to the media. First, they have definite and measurable goals. We have talked in class about this being very important. If the U.S. lawmakers and government put millions and even billions of dollars into something, they need to be able to tell if their money has been worthwhile. I also really like the way they have made this known to the world, and specifically Washington. They have gone directly the source of revenue, and have made it very possible for any politician that would like to learn about it to do so.
The correct information is getting to the correct market, and the correct image is being portrayed about this campaign.
